Why does Melania Trump appear so unhappy when around her husband?

Because she is unhappy. Very unhappy. We know this from Michael Wolf’s book, and also from watching her and her interactions with The Donald, and also through his multiple divorces and what we have heard from his previous wives.
There are clues galore that tell us how he treats Melania—he treats women like objects he owns. Ivana, his first wife, and after her divorce but before Trump bought her silence, told us that he had raped her and slapped her. He walked in on teenage girls at the Teen Ms USA pageant in their dressing room.
[ When Miss Teen USA contestants told 12 yo Ivanka her Dad walked in on them in the dressing room, she replied, 'Yeah, he does that.' ]
Multiple women, quite a few in fact, have come forward with allegations of harassment and sexual assault. His own thoughts are recorded—”Grab them by the pussy”. There’s also the way he talks about women—constant degrading remarks, and his creepy relationship with his daughter Ivanka,
And all this has no doubt, been personally humiliating to Melania. I’m sure she was already aware of the generalities, but this whole Stormy Daniels affair as well as the affair with the Playboy Bunny, must also be disgusting and personally humiliating to Melania.
Trump feels no loyalty or respect toward any woman in his life—he feels only sexual attraction, possession, or disgust at their weight or appearance—and appearance standards he does not hold himself to or any other man. Women are at best, possessions.
How do you think this all translates for any wife of his? Melania’s marriage is a NIGHTMARE. I have no doubt she is subject to constant humiliation and psychological abuse, possibly some light physical abuse as well, although I’m sure he’s careful not to bruise her.
[ I'm only confidant he is careful not to bruise her where it would show or else he would keep her out of sight till they went away. Hmmm, maybe that explains the month out of sight.
But Ivana withdrew her sworn statement and Melania is staying with him. This means nothing. Abused women do that ALL THE TIME. Women CAN be intimidated into silence, into pretending everything is okay. Especially when there are children whose welfare the woman cares about. ]
And she is trapped also. She can’t divorce him, because it might jeopardize her legal status and more likely that of her parents. Trump probably has her in a tight prenuptial to ensure she gets nothing if she divorces, and probably an airtight NDA to keep her from saying anything, and he would probably get custody of her only son—Barron.
Many will say she should have known what she was getting into, and she’s a gold digger and so on. But I confess I feel a little more compassion for her. She was in a tough spot, and she’s not the first woman to sleep with someone or even marry for money and security. But I think it’s far, far worse than she ever imagined or could have foreseen. She is absolutely miserable. It wouldn’t even surprise me if she is a source for some of the leaks about Trump’s malfeasance.

Not to mention, I think she wanted to be a trophy wife. Trophy wives have it pretty easy. They get to go shopping, buy pretty things, have a reasonably quiet life with their children. Sure, the husband will probably trade them in for a newer model in 15 years, but if he’s the one who files for divorce, then she gets a lot of money as a result, and she can keep living her high-society lifestyle.
The First Lady is not afforded with those privileges.

There have been other articles by people who knew her when she was modeling and had just met Trump - and their take was he was blackmailing her to date him - and other articles recently stated that she was set to file for divorce when he was elected (I sincerely hope that costs him a bundle).
