Microsoft isn’t killing the Snipping Tool just yet by Gabriel Stephens Jun 29, 2018 Earlier this week we noted that Microsft was planning to kill off the snipping tool. It turned out that the firm isn’t doing that but hasn’t made a decision one way or the other yet. “We’re in the process of consolidating and modernizing our snipping experiences in Windows. When you upgrade to today’s build you’ll see a note about this in the Snipping Tool. Currently, we are not planning to remove the Snipping Tool in the next update to Windows 10 and the consolidation work underway will be a feedback and data-driven decision,” explained Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar. Much like with other classic tools, Microsoft will only remove this new app when the new version surpasses the older one just like planned to with Paint and Paint 3D. Microsoft has introduced a new feature known as screen sketch to Windows, and another feature that allows you to quickly snip your screen via the Action Center, both features – as well as the Snipping tool accomplish what amounts to the same thing, taking screenshots on your PC. It makes sense that Microsoft should optimise the feature that works the best and remove the rest going forward. While the firm is looking at feedback from Insiders to determine what it drops and what it keeps, the snipping tool will remain and will be here for at least one more year. Source: Microsoft
