the penny should have been gone long ago. as each coin gets more expensive to produce than its face value, it should be discontinued. the only reason it isn't, is for the sake of appearance. the government is afraid to show that the dollar is losing value. but nearly everyone knows it has been losing value for a very long time. the government should make an effort to show that an hour of labor will generally buy more than today than it did in 1913 (even with a less valuable dollar).
