Here is the thesis of my thought:

The human species has just gone though millions of years of barbarian existence since we were swinging in trees until just a few years ago when we finally got racial and gender equality in the law.

Now the right wing wants to send us back to a time of barbarism and we who see their venal ignorance must resist with all our might for the sake of the children if no one else.
