Hello thread,

Went to my first Imax film last Saturday in London. WOW! I saw the New York movie in 3D. While the story was lacking (I heard a couple of youngsters say the plot was "boring"), everyone was in agreement that it was worth the price simply for the visuals. I have to admit that I basically had to sit on my hands to resist the tempation to try to reach out and attempt to "touch" the images.

After thoroughly enjoying the experience I've begun to do some preliminary research on the company. After viewing the financials, corporate overview, etc. I can't believe that there have only been 17 posts on IMAX over the past year and a half.
From what I've seen so far:
- company is growing bottom line at 35-40% a year
- backlog is increasing rapidly and from my guesstimates (including Ridefilm) is somewhere north of $200 million
- Imax has excellent brand name recognition - giving them a
competitive advantage
- Some big movies are coming out in '98 including the hyped
Everest film. I remember seeing a documentary on the making of
this movie.
- Company has not missed quarterly estimates for at least a year
and judging from backlog numbers it appears likely that Company
will hit numbers again next year

So what's the deal, am I missing something? Where is everybody? Or is this stock still relatively undiscovered. At $23/share the stock does not appear to be grossly undervalued, but the current price, IMO, does not adequately reflect IMAX's intrinsic value looking out 3-5 years.

If anybody has any thoughts on the competitve landscape of the large-film industry, IMAX's position within this industry, and the potential for the industry heading into the next century, I would greatly appreciate hearing them.

Thanks,
-nk
