BBC Radio 4 Business Programme

Found on C.S.Y2K, dated 11/10/1997 as 'UK Radio sighting'.

-------

'Yesterday (sunday Nov 9 1997) on a BBC Radio 4 Business Programme at 6:30pm

Included interview with Robert Guernier (sp?), Nuclear Electric, one
of the high-street banks (I think it was Midland).

Fairly general coverage (and it was mentioned that this was a followup to a similar programme a year ago).

There was mention of embedded systems, and the Nuclear Electric guy mentioned ensuring that suppliers, customers and business partners were compliant as an important issue.

There was also mention of the 10,000 odd chips used for a typical North Sea Oil Rig. I think it was man from Shell Exploration mentioning them.

And the standard PHM saying that it was all blown out of proportion, and that when his secretary typed a letter, she put in the date manually, so his firm wouldn't be affected. No mention of which firm this was though.

Robert Guernier also said something along the lines that Gordon Brown (UK Chancellor of the Exchecqer and responsible for our economy) isn't as clued up on Y2000 as he should be.

[As an aside on North Sea rigs, and just to worry UK residents, almost a third of electricity in this country is generated from natural gas fired power stations. If those rigs stop pumping, it's going to get awful cold around here damn quick.] '
