The price correlation between gold and the Asian markets is far from perfect, but it is real. When the Asian markets and currencies tank, the dollar strenghtens and the demand for gold in that region of the world declines. And visa versa. I don't think it is a coincidence that gold and the Asian markets were both massacred last fall. Nor was it a coincidence that gold and the Asian markets both did very well during 1993.
