7/6/2018 Contest update
Whatever fears of a sell-off biotech investors may have had were forgotten after Biogen reported positive results for their Alzheimer’s drug. And Friday’s Biogen fireworks capped off a dazzling week for the sector, more than making up for last week’s losses.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 23.44% YTD (vs. up 16.48% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 8.93% YTD (vs. up 2.88% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 18.31% YTD (vs. up 12.26% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up 11.37% YTD (vs. up 8.79% YTD a week ago).
Holding the top two YTD Contest picks (ARQL & XENE), KMASTR’s portfolio, up 93.85% YTD, had another spectacular week and significantly widened its lead. ALIAS’s portfolio, up 67.32% YTD, held on to second place, while JBOG’s portfolio, helped by a 20% allocation to ARQL, slipped into third place with a 59.96% YTD gain.
At Friday's close, 53 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 46 still beating the NBI and 35 now beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 13.03% and a median YTD loss of -.73%, with 115 showing a gain for the year.
