You might also notice he was a southern democrat. And you cannot judge a party by a few people. You have to look at the entire party and over time.

Right now the most liberal republican is more conservative than the most conservative Democrat in the senate and that is saying something.

We used to have liberals and conservatives in both parties and that is now gone.

You right wingers find one bad apple and then generalize it to the entire party. That is just throwing shit at the wall.

Now there was a text book Democrat.

I forget what year it was that via Byrd's powerful position as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee he earmarked something like 85% of the entire US road infrastructure budget to West Virginia.

Always looking out for the good of society as a whole.. as long as society lived in West Virginia.

When questioned by the media about his actions.. He was non-apologetic. He said.. I am here to promote West Virginia. If I could get 100% allocated. I would in a second.
