As for Japan, other than for a soundly financed export champion like Toyota or so, I wouldn't want to touch it. This is so intransparent there. I owned a Japan fund (kind of an indexed portfolio) on and off for the last two or years. I went just south, south, south, both from a falling Yen and a falling stock market. I sold it quite some time ago, and did not even have a for 5 seconds regret about it. There are better opportunities elsewhere, IMHO.
