The Constitution is not silent on the issue of abortion anymore than it is silent on the issue of school education or any other of many issues. The phrases "liberty" and "due process of law" do not have an ordinary meaning. They are always ambiguous so the judges must ask what the framers would have intended given the lessons of history.
