WAY OFF TOPIC

Sounds about as good as you can get already. I went through a phase of insulation mania--but it does pay off, at least the first increments.

In a relatively mild climate, the previous owner of my house (which at the time had no insulation of any sort) was burning up 1800 gallons of oil a winter for heating. Because the house is faced with stone I had to invent my own unorthodox methods of blowing cellulose in from the inside. One of the biggest improvments was to adjust the thermostat so that its magnetic "anticipator" did not cut in until the temp had dropped at least 5 degrees. it was sending little poots of steam into the pipes and heating nothing but the outside walls.

Bottom line, before I converted to gas I got it down to about 550 gallons of oil per winter--a 70% saving. Next winter I heated almost exclusively with cedar slabs. Sorry wood but only cost me $30 for six cords.

Just another energy-crisis anecdote. And now gasoline is down to 88 cents a gallon somewhere in the country. I saw it for 98 cents a month ago in Ohio.
