It's my understanding that ERCs' process is tuned to run at very high temperatures,ie 1800 degrees (f). Thats not viable for mobile applications, but performs at a higher efficency than Ballards process running at a lower temperature.

As far as marrying Fuel Cells and Hybrids, there may be an application but what I've heard so far would seem to indicate fuel cells operate better than gasoline->generator combos. In any case, both Ballard and ERC could win- one serving a different market than the other. My hope is they both do, as this will a boon for the environment.
