7/27/2018 Contest update
Back from a visit to our northern neighbor and my welcome was less than congenial. Capped off by today’s nasty plunge, the biotech indexes along with the Contest median, not to mention my Contest and real life portfolios, were all severely battered over the past two weeks. So, it might be worth downing a stiff drink before reading on.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 11.47% YTD (vs. up 20.84% YTD two weeks ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 8.17% YTD (vs. up 10.95% YTD two weeks ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 11.78% YTD (vs. up 18.48% YTD two weeks ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up 12.08% YTD (vs. up 13.36% YTD two weeks ago).
Although not immune to the devastation, KMASTR’s portfolio, up 68.00% YTD, remained in first place, with second place ALIAS’s portfolio, up 53.79% YTD, and third place THID’s portfolio, up 50.38% YTD, also holding on to their positions.
At Friday's close, 45 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 34 beating the NBI and 31 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 5.19% and a median YTD loss of -8.38%, with 96 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the prior two weeks ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments:
1) CLRB did 1-10 reverse split.
2) MGN.DE (Mologen) did 1-5 reverse split and its Yahoo symbol changed to MGNK.DE.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe & fun last July weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
