You are exactly correct. That is a nightmare scenario. However, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think European style Socialism is all but inevitable in this country. QE and NIRP, aka Financial Repression, by the Fed made it almost a given that it would happen. Those actions by the Fed accelerated the wealth divide in this country over the last 9 years and of course the Socialists have used that to their advantage. Now the Millennials are 70% in favor of Socialism. Gen X is the only group standing in their way, but this a small generation. The Millennials are huge and they are already leapfrogging Gen X to power. Look at Ocasio-Cortez. In my retirement, I will watch the rise of Socialism in this country and it will break my heart, because I know my grand kids and children will be poorer for it. As they say in Cuba, "Long live Socialism! We are all equal in our poverty." Evidently, our most highly educated generation, the Millennials, are also the most ignorant when it comes to the 100% track record of economic failure that Socialism has. I wish they'd use their education to learn about history. Oh well. They will get what they deserve.
