Wow I have found someone more cynical than myself. In regards to physicians I have never found one that does not have more work than they already want. Sure healthcare makes money off the dying but I think the wish to keep people alive to the last moment is more cultural than financial. In more than 30 years in medicine I have never seen anyone refused service for lack of income although my experience has been more in federal, state, University teaching hospital settings. As a resident I once put my head on the pillow to get one hour sleep in 48 hours and immediately was called to see an intercity woman with her three children asking us to do a well child physical examI. She stated she tended to come in at 3 AM as that was the shortest wait time. We did comply and did the exams I. tend to get my healthcare through the emergency room at John Hopkins Hospital. I'm frequently the only white American in the emergency room. The Rand corporation did a study and found out your chance of survival's greatest if you have surgery in a major urban University Hospital. I marvel at the great treatment inner-city African Americans and off the boat immigrants get at John Hopkins. The white American is getting his healthcare at the local beautifully decked out community hospital with beautiful people in the emergency room. He is also dying more frequently from medical errors
Now what I find it interesting in my experience is the families are the ones that immediately want to pull the healthcare plug as soon as any treatment is going to cost them a dollar. I guess Machiavelli was correct when he warned the princes that a person would sooner forgive the taking of the live of a family member than the taking of their wealth
