PHOENIX FEELS HABOOB: SEVERE WEATHER LEAVES 100,000 HOMES WITHOUT POWER
JULY 31, 2018 CAP ALLON

Severe weather and a haboob went through the Phoenix area Monday evening, knocking out power to 100,000 homes and businesses and hindering travel.

“This was a monster storm,” Suzanne Trevino, of the utility company Arizona Public Service told KPHO-TV.

Power outages multiplied quickly as reports of downed power lines became more widespread.

Strong winds were to blame, according to the Arizona Republic, with 74 mph gusts recorded at the Deer Valley Airport in northern Phoenix.

“It’s mostly trees that have hit our lines or tripped our lines or brought the lines down,” said Scott Harelson of SRP.
