I suppose you can say that if it is eaten, that is dissolved in the water column. Maybe. But, even when it reaches the bottom, the various polychaetes and other critters that live in the bottom get a shot at feeding on it. And that doesn't even include the bacteria.

In any case, that way of sequestering carbon is pretty much maxed out. Especially at the rate we are depleting the biomass in the oceans. If it were increasing faster than the CO2 gets dissolved into the water column, then the pH of the oceans would be climbing instead of dropping. In fact, the pH has gotten low enough that organisms that use CaCO3 for structural members are being compromised.

I am thinking that you don't realize that ideas and hypotheses can be tested. This one can and has been.
