Intel i740 in trouble?

I just read the Jan 5, 1998 issue of EE Times and saw a strange comment in "THE BUZZ" section (page 27). It is a lead-in to a small article on Quantum3D, the company that makes high-end boards for 3dfx.
Here is the comment:

Quantum leaps: Apparently there's "a lot of frustration" over the i740, Intel Corp.'s graphics processor in progress. That's the description from Quantum3D's Ross Smith, whose company opened an office in Folsom, Calif., to hire some Intel employees who have abandoned the i740.

Very curious. Anyone else hear about employees leaving the i740 team? I do know that Real3D, the company Intel bought, had promised and not delivered a chipset for PC-based graphics for something like 2 years before they were bought. I remember attending multiple Siggraphs and each time they said it was coming but still no real boards that you could buy based on their chipset. It wouldn't surprise me if there are continued delays and/or the chipset produced much worse performance than expected.
