Not sure when earnings are to be reported. But, the company has already said they will exceed $0.40/share and that Avonex sales topped $70MM with $10MM in europe. I think that $10MM in europe is a big deal and indicates that success in europe will likely be as successful as in the states. The market seems unimpressed, but I think people should be impressed... In an environment where people are seeking safe ports, Biogen has the combination of growth and solid fundementals that everyone is looking for. I think that analysts are concerned about loss of royalty revenue after 2000, but Avonex may be able to compete with Intron A in the Hep B & C arena and I saw something where it had run some trials on these indications. The pipeline continues to progress and nothing has fallen off the wagon so far. As a shareholder, I hope people start to take notice of all Biogen's positives. I also read the MS threads lately and it appears that Teva's Copaxone has some pretty brutal side effects and not only does not slow MS progression, but doesn't even seem to improve patients' quality of life. I guess you need to be skeptical of what you see posted, but there were no positive posts about Copaxone that I saw. Most of the posts about Avonex were positive, but there were people who had negative experiences. The general tone was 1)Avonex rules but the needles are very long, 2) Betaseron works for some people but antibody buildup is bad and the frequent injections cause flu symptons for 3 or 4 days out of a week and 3) Copaxone hasn't worked well and has lots of side effects, but anything is worth a try.
