Depending on the author, McCain's involvement in the USS Forrestal fire is damning. Not heroic but inept. 134 Americans died due to his fuckup.

His 5 yrs in captivity were much easier than most others. It's telling that none of the POW'S wanted anything to do with him. The captives knew he talked for benefits. Jeremiah Denton alludes to this.

McCain was not a top notch pilot. He was shot down 15 minutes into his first sortie.

So...why all of his decorations? His daddy was a general, grandpappy, too.
