Samsung Names Art Rancis Vice President Of New Product Innovation
Lab

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 15, 1998--Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (SEA), announces
the appointment of Art Rancis as Vice President of Samsung's Product Innovations Lab, the company's recently established
U.S. product planning and business development entity.

Rancis and his operation are responsible for directing the formulation and development of all new product and partnership
initiatives across Samsung's Consumer Electronics and Information Systems product lines. The Product Innovations Lab
resides at SEA's corporate Headquarters in Ridgefield Park, N.J.

According to K.R. Song, President of Samsung Electronics America, "New product innovation will play an essential role in
helping Samsung meet its ambitious goals in the coming years, and we are proud to have Art Rancis heading up this new and
vital organization. The creation of Product Innovation Lab firmly establishes the U.S. as the prime focal point for all of
Samsung's new product development efforts."

Before joining Samsung, Rancis worked at Sony Electronics where he held the position of Vice President, Business
Development and Technology Coordination. During his tenure at Sony, Rancis' duties covered the company's entry into
various "new media" and wireless product businesses. Prior to Sony, Mr. Rancis held several management positions in sales,
marketing and international operations at Storage Technology Corp., a computer peripherals company, and at the Tektronix
Corporation where he participated in broadband video product manufacturing.
Rancis is a graduate of the University of
Colorado.

Samsung's Product Innovation Lab is currently researching new technology and product concept ideas from a number of
sources in North America. Ongoing activities range from surveying major venture capital firms for unique "start up" ideas to
seeking viable manufacturing/marketing partnerships with other major U.S. companies. Opportunities for Samsung should be
