GROUND ZERO™:

maybe we'll get word out of China this weekend to take it over the top...

The US were the ones who initiated the trade talks by inviting China to the US for talks. This initiative by the US shows to China that the US is opening the door to resolve the issues. It should be looked positively by the Chinese.

Even if at a lower political level, any progress in the talks would be closely monitored and evaluated at higher levels. Any reasonable agreements regarding tariffs and IP protection could lead to acceptance at higher levels.

A guest analyst on Fox News, who is an expert on China, said that China had considered America run by idiots over the past 40 years. China took advantage of America's bad trade deals. However, they were surprised by President Trump and have gained respect for President Trump. They realize that there is a new sheriff in town! To me, this improves the chances for meaningful trade and IP negotiations.
