You cannot always get that. I put money in a vehicle started by a guy I met here on SI. His ideas always beat all the rest of us. A backtest other friends kinda did showed solid past results - I never pulled the actual data. I gave a big chunk of loose money in 2007 (yikes!). I have pulled out multiples of original dough and have as much left. And now know the individual personally. It helped having common friends on-line but even then, a perfect scam artist could set that up too. But then I used to do due diligence as part of my job so my light work was probably more than most.
