Hello everyone,
First post here on Silicon Investor, which is, as I currently understand, abbreviated to SI. So, perhaps, a short introduction of myself is not unwelcome here.
I am Dutch and currently studying physics. Although investing in general has interested me since I was a kid, I have never done anything to develop this interest in something (financially) fruitful until a couple years ago. I dare even to say that 'life' has brought me back to the investing world. As I had no (in)formal financial/business education I had to start completely from scratch but after some time I had the feeling I was approaching that particular level of financial understanding that I could comfortably call myself an 'experienced beginner'. Until some day, I cannot remember when, I stumbled upon something called value investing. I was sold immediately, the principles of it made so much sense to me that since then I have regarded any alternative form of 'investing' as mere speculation. Moreover, being a contrarian, if necessary, is part of who I am, and having some patience too, as I understand, is no disadvantage.
As of now, I am still learning to stand on my feet (not even mentioning the walking, or the ultimate goal of running) in this value investing environment. It is tough. I read, among others, The Intelligent Investor (B. Graham) twice and am now trying to work through Security Analysis (B. Graham) for the first time. Before reading the latter I developed some reasonable understanding of financial statements.
