Cisco,

<< NewCo's initiative will be to focus on the further development of imaging-based cytopathology products that support the review and
analysis of cervical Pap smears and other cytology preparations,
including specimen collection
, slide management and mapping, and
critical data management functions.

What do you suppose they mean by specimen collection?>>

I believe Sakura's Tissue-Tek TEC System provides for the collection and preservation of tissue-specimen in a paraffin "mount" for biopsy evaluation. As such they have a clear niche in
specimen collection apparatus.

Do you think that NewCo will be looking at an alternate way to acquire/collect cervical tissue samples, as well as other cytopathology collections?? Could be very interesting if the latest liquid or mono based slides (with their inherent draw-backs) were leap-frogged by a newly developed process jointly developed by some of the assembling players in NewCo.

Now that would be a totally integrated approach at the whole aspect of the cytopatholgy HPV PAP procedure. A new-new collection device, the DMS system, etc. right up to the finished reviewal process.

This area sounds commercially interesting, given the industry and medical knowledge and drawbacks of the traditional and currently available specimen collection methods.
