Wow, that's a long history with Thinkpads, the first one came out in late 1992! en.wikipedia.org My understanding is the older the Thinkpad, the more useful the docking station is, and I love your mention of extra monitors. Have never owned a laptop docking station of any brand but the W701 directly supports 3 external monitors, so that was 3-4 screens at 1920x1200 in 2010 before using any splitter, or usb screen adapter that draws on cpu. I did something similar to you with spare, left behind, LCD monitors revisiting girlfriends in Singapore and Thailand! Plug and play. ;-) Mentioned in another message is how the workstation class Thinkpads are designed to be disassembled and reassembled on your own with -usually- clear instructions. This has helped me a lot when a laptop has four ram slots because usually 2 are below the keyboard and difficult to get to, and 2 are below the underside and require only a screw or two to be removed. I've seen desktop replacements where it's impossible to get under the keyboard short or breaking or cracking, or otherwise cosmetically damaging the keyboard panel simply to get underneath and add a fourth ram stick of what is supposed to be a tank. HA! It says much to their durability that you have a working XP Thinkpad, think Ron does too. Good form!
