Bernie is FOS! I don't know what Bernie considers a living wage, but $30K is all any basic laborer makes in most warehouses. I worked at Amazon's first warehouse in Delaware for 5 yrs. and it was OK. They go to extraordinary lengths to remedy any safety concerns identified by workers or management. For example, I worked in a glass bottle factory over the summers, while in college. Handling wooden pallets was part of the job, including putting up with splinters. But not at Amazon. The fairer sex complained about the splinters and the AMZN remedy was gloves must be worn to handle pallets.
To me a lot of these types of rules just impede efficiency, but management didn't care about speed/efficiency as much as safety. Management did the same with forklift speeds. Turned them down to max speed of 3mph, or walking speed, so a walking worker could avoid a forklift if necessary. And there were already safety fences to keep workers out of the forklift lanes.
When I left Amazon my 401K was 1/2 of my target. I just cashed out, seven yrs later, 70% above my goal, thanks to AMZN matching stock soaring. Making Retirement Great Again!
fyi
AMZN also had healthcare benes, vision plan(vsp), 10% employee discount, life insurance, etc. on top of the $30K pay rate.
You can tell that Bernie never held a job outside of the gov't. What a putz! |
