Elmo and Joe...I agree, something is not right. Unfortunately, due to the secrecy of the entire deal, it'll probably be near impossible to figure it out...but if I were to guess, this is all part of the original plan.

A couple of initial thoughts:

Novonyx is two years old? I thought it came to be early last year.

How could the company be folded back into Novell. It's my understanding there was private investment capitol that funded a large portion of the startup. Seems to me the company would have to be purchased. This brings us back to the questions no one would answer...who funded how much of this startup. I'll bet Netscape had little or no financial involvement.

Since Novonyx is just getting their first products on the market, how can anyone state that "something is not broken". Seems to me they would have to currently be operating with huge initial R&D losses. Further, no one to my knowledge has seen any kind of financial information on Novonyx.

It never made sense in the first place that Novell would fund a startup to compete with some of it's own products.

I wonder if employees received severance pay, and if so, now many of these are being re-absorbed.

Novonyx never responded to my questioning emails way back when.

Ironic that Novonyx resides within the Novell kingdom.

Could the ultimate plan be to merge Netscape and Novell? Will Netscape be Novell's next WP?

Other than the initial setup, I don't believe I've ever heard Netscape mention Novonyx.

Wonder what would happen to the Novonyx board, specifically Marengi?

Something is not right, and we'll probably never know, cause IMO this is all part of a carefully crafted plan, though the logic of it is beyond me.
