8/31/2018 Contest update
Attracted by the scent of Affimed, no less than seven Contest portfolios were infested by Roche’s this week – Roche dollars to be exact. Such infestation significantly benefited the Contest median, over and above the week’s bullish backdrop for biotechs in general.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up a stunning 27.41% YTD (vs. up 12.99% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 14.48% YTD (vs. up 10.11% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 18.12% YTD (vs. up 13.40% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up 17.47% YTD (vs. up 15.10% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader KMASTR’s portfolio had another spectacular week, closing Friday in triple-digit territory with a 108.36% YTD gain. Powered by a 20% allocation to AFMD, SPTAD’s portfolio, up 92.68% YTD, rocketed into second place, with ALIAS’s portfolio, up 88.89% YTD, dropping to third place.
At Friday's close, 54 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 43 beating the NBI and 38 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 14.91% and a median YTD loss of -1.26%, with 112 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a relaxing Labor Day weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
