That buying experience at Home Depot was a few years ago, so I can't assure anyone of the complete accuracy of my memory about what I was told. I shouldn't have said "all" are made by the same manufacturer, because I'm confidant that can't be true. On the other hand, as I recall the Hotpoint and, perhaps the Westinghouse (again, not sure here), were identical, and I do mean identical to the Kenmore machine I was replacing. I'm sure that's what the guy meant with what he told me.

But, going back to GE.... I'm pretty sure I've read, and been told, that GE was a major manufacturer of a large number of the other brand name products. That may no longer be true as I'm a long way out of the loop these days.

EDIT: I should have added that given the tariff battles currently in the news, it appears that a great deal of these appliances are now coming out of China. Things have apparently changed a lot since my last purchase.
