LG appliances did repair anything in your washing machine or dryer, and presumably other LG appliances for $150 a few years back (parts and labor included). Contact LG before making repairs. Given many parts are now worth $300 or more, this appears to be a good deal.
I have a forty year old Kenmore washer and dryer. I could get all the parts for them for peanuts until Sears went belly up. The only thing I have had to replace was a drive belt on the dryer. Those were built in the days when there was lots of competition and appliances were made to last.
The five year old LG washer has needed a new electronic control panel worth over $300 (replaced for $150), and a pump I took from a Moffat washer that broke down after two years. Most of the solenoids, pumps etc., are interchangeable. This is not true with most other components.
I was warned off of buying anything with a lot of electronic panels etc., by a repair man. He spends all his time replacing electronic panels, infrared elements on stoves etc. He rarely has to repair old stoves (with the old metal elements), washers, dryers, fridges etc. He did say that new refrigerators are worth it. New fridges are greatly improved with more efficient motors and insulation that make their operating costs a tenth or more of the old ones. Try and get a fridge that has few gadgets. The basic units last forever, but the gadgets and fancy electronic control panel break down quickly.
According to an appliance store here, Trumps tariffs are adding significant dollars to appliances now with more coming in the future as costs work there way down to the consumer. So we will pay more for crappier stuff. |
