Hi Richard,

Nice post on the moving averages, MACD and stuff like that.
I tend to use the ADX/DMI on the monthly and weekly charts
to measure the longer-term trendiness or choppiness of a
particular stock. The ADX appears to work better for me if
I use it on the longer-term charts. I also like using the
difference between the upper and lower Bollinger bands.
Since it is a trading band using volitility in it's calculation,
I found it useful to locate strong trending stocks. Once I
narrow down the stocks with strong trending characteristics,
I then start doing analysis on the daily charts, looking for
break-outs with strong volume, strong relative strength, and
good EPS. I tend to apply my approach by combining different
time frames (monthly, weekly, daily charts) but I tend to believe
in the motto of keeping it simple also so I don't use too many
technical analysis indicators.
