I always thought Whirlpool was the higher end of appliances at Sears and Hotpoint the lower end. I never bot one until we downsized and remodeled the kitchen in our new place. Jeff Heyden's post points out that Whirlpool is quite the big company and makes and distributes a lot of name brands, so you're guy at HD was closer to the mark then not.

I always had Jenn-Air stoves and will switch back to one when we replace this gas Whirlpool.......that I really do not like. Jenn-Air has always been a top notch stove.

We have a Bosch dishwasher and this Whirlpool refrigerator for our small space. We both really love this refrigerator.
