The court's sole purpose is to enforce the law
Court's purpose is to interpret law. Executive branch of gov't is charged with enforcing laws past by Congress. Interpretation of the should be limited to intent, but often it involves effect of its decision, & unfortunately & debatable, politics. As such decision are tailored to specifics of a case if court wishes to limit effect of decision upon others who may potentially impacted by its ruling.
