John, I would think that if AMD was hurt enough, they would be acquired....I personally would like to see AMD remain independent and struggle rather than IBM/TI/MOT buy them. These guys have the resources and potentially the manafacturing expertise/experience to pull-off high volumes of a competitive processor. Of course, this would take a while, and Intel would be that much further ahead. Plus, Intel has shown to be a ruthless competitor and will protect market share at any price. Therefore, these guys might conclude that there are much easier ways to make money than to compete against Intel. If AMD was to just die off, then Intel's PE would skyrocket a-la Micorsoft.
