Some protesters made it to Tverskaya, blocked for the city day celebrations. “Putin is a thief” they chant on Moscow’s main avenue. Regular folk look amazed as though some other universe just opened up to them.

In Russia this is, rightfully, seen as oligarchs stealing from poor elderly people in order to line their own pockets. And, as I pointed out down thread, the life expectancy in Russia is such that people will be working up to the time they are expected to die.

I get what you are saying, because things are certainly not right here in America, but the Russian people have a legitimate right to complain. And the Kremlin's need to arrest children shows how weak they are on this issue.

For what it is worth, apparently the anger over the raising of the pension age is partly rooted in the fact that, in some parts of Russia, the life expectancy is 63 years. So, working until one is 65 means literally working until one is likely to die.
