9/14/2018 Contest update
SEC charges late last week against biotech billionaire, Phillip Frost, may have given biotech investors cold feet. But whatever the reason, biotech stocks were unable to bounce back from last week’s losses and closed Friday about even for the five days.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 20.99% YTD (vs. up 19.63% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 10.33% YTD (vs. up 10.35% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 12.97% YTD (vs. up 13.59% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up 16.03% YTD (vs. up 14.47% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader KMASTR’s portfolio, up 87.88% YTD, had another down week cutting its lead by about half from roughly 22% to 11%. Helped by DRNA’s 20% gain for the week, SPTAD’s portfolio, up 76.08% YTD, jumped back to second place. ALIAS’s portfolio, up 67.70% YTD, dropped to third place.
At Friday's close, 46 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 39 beating the NBI and 37 still beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 9.60% and a median YTD loss of -9.01%, with 100 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a relaxing weekend biotechies!
All the best in 5779!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
