Ozone is a 3 atom molecule of oxygen (O3) and it's what you smell when it rains and as you said it quickly reverts to (O2) which is a 2 atom molecule of oxygen that we usually breath.

(O1) is one atom of oxygen and it wants to bond with something else, which is why most oxygen is (O2) and we have water and why iron rusts which is oxidation.
