I seem to recall learning long ago - psychology classes? - that people who are excessively wordy are insecure about their ability to convey what it is they are trying to say. While I don't know that that is so, this digital age by contrast encourages brevity such that it is also damaging to language (ala George Orwell's 1984 "Newspeak"), texting being the best example. ...easy for me to say. I refuse to type with my thumbs.
