I would question the legitimacy of that "test". Telling someone to find the pencil in this pile of books is too vague to be honest. When one visualizes a pencil he/she would most likely think back to grade school when a pencil was that long yellow wooden thing with a red eraser on one end and a sharpened opposite end with a bit of lead protruding. Why would we expect to find something that doesn't look like a pencil anyone has ever seen?
