I wonder if 'Trey', William Gates III, appreciates the leg up that his parents connections and money and legal expertise and Harvard gave him in the world, or if he thinks he pulled himself up by his bootstraps? A good friend of mine's mother is a lawyer and met Bill's parents at an Illinois Bar Association function many years ago. She remembers feeling sorry for them when they told her that their son had just dropped out of Harvard to start a computer company. So, it seems that his parents probably encouraged him to stay in school.
