Dear Members,
Silicon Investor is rolling out the transition of our site to a new set of financial data service providers.
What does this change mean?
- Silicon Investor's "Markets" tab has been retired. This section - the Markets pages (URLs that started with "markets.siliconinvestor.com") were a service of the market data provider we are leaving.
- The headline news, stock quotes and stock charts that appeared on our proper site ("www.siliconinvestor.com") for the past five years had come by way of this provider we are sun-setting. As such, before embarking on this transition, we took great time and effort to find replacements for these feeds and services - North American stock quotes, stock indices, charting, and stock news. I believe that outside the disappearance of the Markets tab, you folks won't notice much of a change. I hope and believe you'll probably only notice improvements:
- When using the "Market Data" view on StockTalk Subject pages associated with a ticker, Members are now able to access interactive stock price history without leaving the page. We've replaced the current-day-only stock price graphic of our former provider with our own code - an interactive applet that charts data feeds originating from major exchanges or our own database. As a result, Members can now toggle the time scale of stock price charts in order to view minute, hour, day, week, month, year or 3-year performance, all without leaving or refreshing the Subject page. Going forward we hope to enhance this SI service further, and we can, because our own codebase now powers the charts.
- Silicon Investor now has access to a more broad and comprehensive financial news feed. Our crypto boards now have news, just like our stock boards. We've added time stamps to the headlines to help you decide whether to follow the link. The intermediate stop on the Markets page when you follow a news headline link has been removed. We do plan to further enhance our news services going forward. The news service provider we've brought in is a promising new startup. They use artificial-intelligence based classification of financial news (and more) to gather top stories world-wide. And they are working closely with us to enable customized politics and general market news feeds for other forums and boards of Silicon Investor.
- So who are our new data services providers? You may have already taken note of our recent addition of Financial Intelligence (fintel.io) data. Fintel brings access to information on institutional ownership, insider activity and short sales data, to our message boards. This year we also saw the addition of Crypto quote data feeds from Binance and Coinbase. We've now added two new providers of North American stock quote feeds to complete the picture: the upstart IEX exchange and Alpha Vantage. Finally, we've brought in a great new source of stock-related news though the innovative CityFALCON Financial News service startup.
Please feel free to PM myself or SI Ron should you encounter any issues with this roll-out. We hope to rapidly address any quote or news issues that spring up and that we identify or our membership points out as a result of this transition over the next few days and weeks.
Regards,
@Dima |
