9/28/2018 Contest update
Dr. Christine Blasey Ford explained to the Senate Judiciary Committee how traumatic memories are encoded in the hippocampus. We’ll see in November what voters remember. Meanwhile, biotech investors were reminded of the benefits of omega-3 this week when Amarin reported that its fish oil pill lowered the risk of a major adverse cardiovascular event. Amarin is held in 3 Contest portfolios and gained a prodigious 444% for the week.
Amarin’s good news helped biotechs put another weekly gain on the scoreboard. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 23.63% YTD (vs. up 19.74% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 14.27% YTD (vs. up 11.15% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 13.06% YTD (vs. up 12.53% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up 16.56% YTD (vs. up 15.70% YTD a week ago).
KMASTR’s portfolio, up 112.63% YTD, retained the Contest lead but second place THID’s portfolio, up 109.95% YTD, is close behind. POMP’s portfolio, up 93.04% YTD, moved up to third place.
At Friday's close, 50 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 40 still beating the NBI and 41 now beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 14.27% and a median YTD loss of -2.98%, with 110 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
I’ll post my usual quarterly summary as soon as I can get to it.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy your first October, 2018, weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
