Boy,

I love this discussion, it goes back to my classic training and I understand the concepts. Old Dr. Cronk and Pharmacy School would be proud of me. He was a man of uncompromising principle. You did it right, or your failed. A little smudge on the edge of your label, and you were out.

Things were simple then. I will say that again!! Things have changed!!

Today, few pharmacists know what Dr. Cronk and others taught me about physical properties of products and about compounding pharmaceutical produts. Particle size and their relation to chemical reactions and to their effect were key. The stability of the product and its elegance were also considered greatly. Why do I say what I say in this thread?

In many respects, we as a society have gone away from what was common knowledge in the past. We have been lead away by commercial interests. As an example, there is a trend to "natural products" and "natural therapies". This represents the public distrust of being lead by the nose by the pharmaceutical/managed care industry. Not to say that we must distrust all our advisors and physicians, for many are very acomplished and very dedicated.

Where am I leading with this. Much of what we are fed does not taste very well. Folks are looking elswhere!

The Food and Drug Administration, FDA has recently undertaken an effort to ban compounding by pharmacists such as me, claiming that we do not meet the current guidelines for "manufacturers".

In response to that, let me say that I watched "Oprah" today and there was great interest in 2% testosterone proprionate ointment, which I have made often and know how to produce. There is currently no FDA approved manufacturer of this product, but soon, I predict there will be.

I wander greatly here and beg the tolerance of all here. Is there a paralell between misunderstood pharmacists and misunderstood miners of precious metals. For me, I think so.

Greatly misunderstood miners and analysts will, in my opinion, produce the greatest revolution in mining to date--I truly question the efforts of old, tired pharmacists, but laud the miner/analysts!!

Keep thy hat light straight forward, and be the safe, great miners!!

Old Pharmacist, Jack
