When I was a kid, there were no fences on either side of our house, which allowed all us kids to run back and forth in all 3 backyards. Then one day, a fence went up on both sides and we were very sad about it. No more running through the wet wash on the lines, no more trampling flowers and vegetable gardens, no more broken windows from the baseball games, no more pets on the loose. We just couldn’t understand why our parents did that to us.
