Tim, That's an interesting report. Intel (INTC) will ship a new processor technology dubbed Katmai in 1999, designed to enhance complex applications such as 3D graphics and speech recognition and run at speeds starting at about 500 MHz, company executives revealed today. With all the advertisements and 12 months, Intel brought the useless MMX to the market. Even IDT could came out their own enhanced MMX instructions within 3 months while Intel needs more than 24 months to come up their MMX2. Being the famous copycat, Intel released the MMX2 news after they digested the new MMX instructions from Cyrix, AMD and IDT. Nothing left for Intel to copy from? Not really! As long as competition exists, innovotions will be created by none-Intel chip companies.
