In Wisconsin we live on 40 acres -

We just went the opposite way 3 years ago. One level. No basement. No 2nd floor. Our lot is just a little bigger than a
50¢ stamp. Never thought we would get used to it. We love it! (except the no basement part when the tornado sirens go off) Can wash all the windows on the outside without any ladders.

Good neighbors are kind of important on this size too!
