10/5/2018 Contest update
Whether it was the acrimonious Kavanaugh confirmation kerfuffle, China dumping its Treasury bonds or a butterfly flapping its wings in the Amazon will forever remain unknown. But whatever the precipitating factor, biotechs had a terrible, terrible week.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 13.99% YTD (vs. up 23.63% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 9.26% YTD (vs. up 14.27% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 6.78% YTD (vs. up 13.06% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up 12.82% YTD (vs. up 16.56% YTD a week ago).
Meanwhile, we have a new Contest Leader! THID’s portfolio, up 95.14% YTD, withstood the carnage better than others, taking over first place. By contrast, our many months leader, KMASTR’s portfolio, up 81.86% YTD, was hit hard and fell to second place. KEOKA’s portfolio, up 79.71% YTD, was relatively unharmed for the week, grabbing third place.
At Friday's close, 47 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 35 beating the NBI and 38 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 7.75% and a median YTD loss of -9.67%, with exactly 100 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: RGLS did a 1-12 reverse split.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
No update next Friday as I’m out-of-town for a wedding anniversary celebration.
Enjoy a safe and relaxing weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
