sridhar, the past is often a very good (never perfrect) indicator of the future. for example, mu was supposed to earn $0.45+ in q4 and $3.00 plus in 1998. when they earned $0.33 instead of the expected $0.45+ then all the 1998 estimates were reduced by a lot. the past is only as valuable as it indicates the future. to say that it has no or only minimal bearing is often not the case. good luck.
